A well chosen and placed antique rugs will enhance any home, apartment or office. They are available in a wide range and variety of colors, sizes, textures, and prices. Artistic handmade antique rugs dated less than 1930 and that are in a good condition are very expensive and worth the price. A room sized antique rugs may have taken many months for weaver.

Antique rugs and early hand-woven carpets are normally categorized as to their probable geographic origin. New rugs, which may be hand-tied or machine woven, are assigned to the land that inspired their design. It is the fact that it is difficult to discern hand-woven antique rugs from machine made.

Generally, you should notice some obvious signs of age, vibrancy and earthiness in color, and artistic inconsistencies in weave and design. Fortunately, many machine woven carpets are also labeled as such underneath, but you will not find antique rugs with labels, if they are not in museums.
